*Do I really get a 30 day trial period?
Yes! Every account comes with a 30 Day Trial Period. Simply order the account you want and try it out for 30 days. You can cancel your account by e-mailing at signup, and obtain a full refund. You have nothing to loose and everything to gain!

*What are some of the tools and features calipsys.com provides?

*Do I register my domain name or will calipsys.com do that for me?
You can register your own domain name or if you request we will do it for you. We recommend you use http://www.DirectNic.com for your domain registration. They only charge $15 per domain per year.

*Do you handle the domain registration process?
Once your account is activated, you will receive a welcome e-mail that will include directions on how to properly transfer your domain over to calipsy.com's webservers. If a new domain is required, calipsys will setup the domain and charge you the applicable fee. If you are transferring your domain name to calipsys, there are no extra fees for that. If calipsys registers your domain name, you will be listed as the owner of that domain name and have full ownership rights.

*How do I transfer my domain name to your servers?
First you must contact your registrar. Your registrar is the company that you used to register your domain name. Most registrars have the ability for you to login to their website and change the DNS servers--others don't. The settings you need to change are called DNS (Domain Name Server) settings.

*Can I access my domain address without the "www"?
Yes, you can access your domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. The "www" is a tertiary domain name that isn't necessary because our nameservers have been properly configured to provide flexible access to your website.

*Can I upload pages frequently?
Each account comes with an FTP account. You have full access to your space via FTP 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This enables you to update your website as often and as you would like.

*How long does it take to set up my account?
Accounts are setup within 24 hours of the time of signup. This includes weekends and holidays.

*What is the Account Control Panel?
The Account Control Panel makes managing your website and webhosting account easy and efficient. This extraordinary interface offers you a way to quickly view account-related information and provides easy access to the wide variety of tools and utilities that come with your account. With the click of a mouse, you can administer your web space, e-mail accounts, directories, cgi-bin (program script storage area) and all the special features offered. Gain control and flexibility to make changes within your own time frame and according to your own particular business needs. Each webhosting account is granted a certain amount of data transfer per month. These amounts are very large and rarely do our customers use up the full transfer limit assigned to them. *Do you offer website design as well?

No, currently calipsys does not allow adult web sites.

*Does email stored on the email accounts go towards the webspace quota?
No, email stored on the server does not go toward the webspace allocated for your account.

*Is it possible to upgrade plans later?
Yes, you have the option of upgrading your entire plan or if you so choose, upgrading parts of it such as harddisk space. This can all be done by e-mailing .

*Are sub-domains included with my account?
Each account has a limited number of subdomains available depending on the hosting option you chose at signup. Subdomains can be instantly added/removed from the control panel.

*Can I use my account for commercial purposes?
Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes including selling tangible goods. The Internet has become the most efficient and cost-effective means of making information available to the users of the Internet community and we encourage our customers to utilize such an enormous medium for their benefit.

*Can I have a public FTP server?
Calipsys doesn't allow public FTP servers for security reasons. We only provide a private FTP for maintaining your web site. As an alternative we suggest offering files directly from your web site.

*What server software do you use?
We use Apache and Linux along with many extras such as php and MySQL. Our software is configured in a manner to allow peak performance for our users websites.

*Does calipsys.com use Unix or NT servers?
Calipsys Internet Services utilizes only Unix servers because of their compatibility, dependability and power.

*What are FrontPage extensions and do you support them?
If you are using Microsoft FrontPage to design and build your web site, you will need your web host to have FrontPage extensions installed on their server. This allows you to directly transfer the website you have created on your personal computer to our servers for viewing on the internet. All of our hosting packages include support for FrontPage 98, 2000 and 2002.

*Do you offer SSL encryption for transferring credit card information?
Our servers are equipped with the latest SSL technology so your customers can safely order your products or services online! We can purchase a security certificate on your half to enable the secure server for your site at a cost of $5 per month.

*What is a cgi-bin and how do I get one?
A CGI-bin is where you store CGI scripts. These scripts are used to generate online order forms, guestbooks, shopping carts, counters, and more. All calipsys.com hosting packages include their own CGI-bin found in your public_html directory. All cgi scripts can be placed in this directory and later executed from within your html files. Will my Macintosh work with my calipsys.com hosting account? Yes. Our servers use standard protocols such as FTP, Telnet, SSH, and HTTP that are compatible with Macintosh operating systems. Telnet and ftp programs are available for the macintosh and can be utilized to setup and update your webpages.

All of our servers have direct access to three backbones; Frontier GlobalCenter, Qwest Communications, and Genuity, a division of GTE. This means fastest speed possible and greater reliability. GC, a Tier 1 provider whose 13,000-mile fiber optic network and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology provide an enormous 460 gigabytes per second (Gbps) of capacity worldwide, has an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) fiber node located just a few floors below calipsys.com's servers. Qwest comes into Baltimore with an OC-12 line and plans to upgrade their connection to an OC-48 in the near future. They also have an ATM fiber node floors below calipsys.com's servers. *What are auto responders and how many do I receive with my account?
You can set up auto responders to automatically respond to incoming email. For example, if you had an order form which your customers email to you, you can set up an auto responder to email the customer a confirmation message that their message was received. Each account plan comes with an unlimited amount of auto responders.

*What are email aliases and email forwarders?
How many can I use? Email aliases are email addresses that you create to forward e-mails to your existing calipsys.com e-mail accounts. When you create a pop3 e-mail account using the control panel, you can forward any other e-mail accounts on your domain to the pop3 accounts. Any mail sent to these aliases would automatically be forwarded to your existing POP email account. Email forwarders enable you to forward any e-mail accounts you setup on your domain name to existing email accounts you have. For example, you may forward yourname@yourdomain.com to your existing e-mail address: you@yourISP.com. You can have as many email aliases and email forwarders as you want. Your mail account is also configurable to "Catch All" email directed to non existing email accounts at your domain.

*Does my account come with web statistic software?
Each account comes with the following statistics software which can be accessed directly from the control panel:
•Analog - Analog produces a simple summary of all the people who have visited your site. It is fast and provides great lightweight statistics
•Webalizer - Webalizer is a more complex stats program which produces a nice variety of charts and graphs about who has visited your site. This is probably the most popular stats engine available today. You have two options available to you. You can view the logs from your Web Site or the logs from your Ftp Site (if you have one).
•Latest Visitors - This will show you the last 300 visitors who came to your site, and some interesting information about them such as their web browser type/version and their operating system.
•Bandwidth - This will show how many bytes of transfer your account has utilized.
•Error Log - This will show you errors that were encountered as individuals visited your website such as images not loading, missing files, etc. This is very useful for debugging a cgi script.

*Do you have a database system?
Yes, calipsys.com utilizes one of the most powerful and compatible database systems available in the market. Our use of MySQL is a result of member requests. We have found that our users prefer MySQL because it is a relatively easy-to-use database program. Review http://www.mysql.com for more information.

*Does each webhosting account have its own raw log files?
Yes. Each accounts complete log files and statistics can be viewed and downloaded through the control panel. You have the option to view the logs by several different references as well as download them to your computer in the raw format.

*What version of Perl does calipsys.com use?
We use version 5.6.0 Perl modules CGI.pm and LWP are installed.

*Does calipsys.com offer Server Side Includes (SSI)?
Yes, SSI is included with all of the webhosting accounts. To take advantage of the SSI be sure that you arrange your files with the .shtml extension.

*Can I edit my DNS file?
Yes, you may add subdomain entries to be hosted by us through the control panel. Also, you can point subdomains to any IP that you may like, such as your home or office computer through the same interface on the control panel. For more complicated issues, you can request changes to your DNS file by emailing .

*Do you have PHP4 installed?
Yes, currently all calipsys.com servers are using PHP4.

*What should I set my POP3 mail server settings as?
Your POP mail server setting will be your domain.
For example: if you're email address is: "you@yourdomain.com" then you're POP server is: "yourdomain.com".

Webhosting Payment Questions

*Are there any setup fees?
Absolutely not. Calipsys strives to provide the best service at the most affordable price. Because we do not incur any costs when automatically setting up your account on our servers, it is completely unnecessary that we charge you.

*Is there an overage charge if I go over my bandwidth?
Yes, there is a $6 per GB overage charge when you go over your allotted bandwidth.

*May I pay by check or money order?
Yes you may, however, note that accounts will not be setup until the payment is received. Make checks and money orders payable to 'Calipsys' and mail them to:

Accounts are billed every month or by the billing period you chose at signup. For example, if an account was created on the 22nd of the month, that account will be billed on that same day of the month in the future.
